Pet friendly pancakes
Whether you’re celebrating pancake day, or want to treat your furry friend, why not involve your pets with some of our fun recipes and topper ideas.
Remember, that treats should be given occasionally alongside a well-balanced diet. If your pet is on a special diet, please check with your vet first.
Dog friendly pancakes
You will need 3 ingredients:
- One mashed banana
- One egg
- 100g flour (please note, if your pet is intolerant or allergic to grains, use an alternative such as coconut flour or almond flour)
Add the flour and egg to the mashed banana and beat until a smooth batter is formed. If the mixture is too thick, you can add some water to smooth it out.
Pour the mixture into a frying pan, using only a small amount of coconut or olive oil. (Please note, if your dog is prone to pancreatitis, please steer clear of using oil.)
Here are some of our fun topper ideas:
- Pumpkin puree (can be used as an alternative to banana) – it is great for digestion! Ensure it is pure pumpkin.
- Peanut butter (xylitol free)
- Honey
- Blueberries
- Carrot
- Cheese
- Apple
Cat friendly pancakes
We suggest making your feline pal a fishcake, trust us, they will love it! Here is what you will need:
- 2 x 115g (4oz) cans sardines in sunflower oil
- 115g (4oz) self-raising flour
- 1 large free-range egg
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- 1 heaped tablespoon unset (runny) honey
Preheat the oven to 190C/375F/Gas Mark 5. Grease a 24 x 21 x 3/4cm (9 x 8 x 1/4in) baking sheet.
Mash all the ingredients together in a large bowl, until they form a soft dough.
Spread the dough evenly over the baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow to cool on the sheet. Cut into bite-sized squares.
Keep in an airtight glass container in the fridge for up to three days or freeze for up to one month.
